Mānawatia a Matariki!

Matariki is a time to reflect, connect and celebrate with whānau as we celebrate another year. We invite you to join us to mark the occasion at the Waitangi Treaty Grounds with a free open day on Sunday 22 June.

All tamariki will receive a Seek 'n’ Find activity during Matariki and the June/July School Holiday period.

FREE Open Day: 22 June

Visit Waitangi and enjoy a full programme of free guided tours and cultural performances (available first come, first served). Explore the two contemporary museums Te Rau Aroha Museum of the Price of Citizenship and Te Kōngahu Museum of Waitangi, Te Whare Rūnanga, the Treaty House and one of the world's largest ceremonial waka. Check out the gift shop for Matariki specials and Whare Waka Café for the Matariki Menu.

Matariki Rapuhia / Seek 'n’ Find for Tamariki:  20 June – 15 July

Our learning team have created a fun, Matariki themed activity for all the tamariki to enjoy! Embark on a captivating journey around the Treaty Grounds as you search for objects and places with a special connection to Te Kāhui o Matariki, the stars of Matariki. It's a great opportunity for children to immerse themselves in Māori culture and astronomy while having fun exploring the beauty of Waitangi.

Time: 9am to 5pm
