Join us as a volunteer at the Waitangi Treaty Grounds!
We are seeking dedicated volunteers to support our operations across key areas of the Waitangi Treaty Grounds from September 2025 to April 2026. This is a rewarding opportunity to give back, learn new skills, and be part of a passionate team committed to kaitiakitanga, manaakitanga and sharing our nation’s story.
Gallery and Museum Support Volunteer: Support the care of exhibitions, engage with visitors respectfully, answer questions, and uphold exhibition standards.
Garden and Grounds Volunteer: Help care for historic gardens, lawns, and pathways. Support with event set-ups, seasonal planting, and whenua care.
Visitor Guide Volunteer: Welcome visitors with warmth and manaakitanga, provide maps, directions, and basic site information. Ensure every manuhiri has a positive and respectful experience.
What We're Looking For:
• Available up to 2 days per week (flexible hours, rostered across 7 days).
• Some roles may include weekends or public holidays depending on events and visitor needs.
• Friendly, reliable, and respectful people.
• Interest in New Zealand history, culture, or outdoor care.
• Willingness to learn and support our Kaupapa.
• Able to commit regularly through the summer season.

Are you passionate about education, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, the unique history of Aotearoa, and te ao Māori. The Waitangi Treaty Grounds invites applications for a dynamic Educator to join our Learning Team. This is a special opportunity to help shape the way our nation's founding story is shared with ākonga (students), adult learners, and visitors from across Aotearoa and beyond.
About the Role:
As an Educator, you will plan, coordinate, and deliver engaging education programmes that align with the New Zealand Curriculum | Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, Te Aho Matua, Te Whariki and reflect the spirit of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. You’ll contribute to EOTC-funded initiatives, support public programmes for ākonga (students), and engage adult learners through innovative and relevant educational experiences that foster deeper understanding and connection. You will work collaboratively across teams to uphold our values and mission.
Key Responsibilities:
• Deliver EOTC education programmes grounded in the NZ Curriculum | Te Marautanga, Te Aho Matua and Te Whariki.
• Develop and deliver learning opportunities for adult learners, including public programmes, workshops, and community engagement.
• Create both online and in-person educational resources.
• Facilitate public education programmes for children and adults.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with schools, adult education providers, and learning networks.
• Contribute to developing innovative educational experiences that reflect national and international interests.
• Support guiding and curatorial teams as needed.

Are you passionate about sharing te ao māori with the world? This is a fantastic opportunity to join our kapa haka rōpu, Te Pito Whenua, and perform at the Waitangi Treaty Grounds on a short-term basis.
We need a tāne guitar hero on a fixed-term part-time (approx 25hrs per week) basis between August - March
Must:
- Play guitar competently & quick to learn
- Be available to start mid- late August
- Enjoy sharing their knowledge and stories through performance to a wide range of audiences (schools, ambassadors, ministers, tourists etc)
- Have previous experience in kapa haka
- Be engaging & confident
- Be available to work weekends and some evenings (Oct - March)
