Waitangi National Trust seeks to appoint a Trustee “…to represent the Māori people living in the North Auckland Peninsular” in terms of the Waitangi National Trust Board Act 1932. We are inviting applications from individuals of Māori descent residing in North Auckland, Northland, and Far North regions. 

The Waitangi National Trust is the kaitiaki of the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. Our vision is to uphold He Whenua Rangatira - An Enduring Symbol of Nationhood. Our mission is Titiro ki ngā Taumata o te Moana - To Illustrate the Ongoing Promise of Waitangi to the World. The Trust is a non-profit charitable organisation that governs an estate of 504ha, including the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. The trust manages, through a subsidiary company, several land leases and commercial activities to provide income to support the maintenance and development of the estate on behalf of the people of New Zealand. 

Applicants should demonstrate skills, experience, and knowledge relating to general governance, Te Tiriti o Waitangi/the Treaty of Waitangi, and the objectives of Waitangi National Trust. Experience working with communities (including Māori) is essential. Experience in the tourism sector and experience in tikanga and te reo Māori would be an advantage.
